Newcomers to the sport are welcome at every tier!

Players must come equipped with their own gear, which includes a stick and appropriate protective equipment. For boys, this gear comprises a mouthguard, gloves, arm pads, shoulder pads, cup, and helmet. Girls need a stick, goggles and a mouthguard.

Equipment can be borrowed for kindergarten through to 6th-grade players based on availability (sticks, goalie equipment). If you need equipment, we encourage you to reach out as we are always striving to reuse gear that has been outgrown

Practices and Games
Our official outdoor practices take place at Mad River Park, commencing in April. Some team coaches may also arrange pre-season indoor sessions before April. Practices run 1-1.5 hours on average and happen 2x during the weekday.

Games are scheduled to kick off during the first week of May and continue through mid-June. Games are jamboree style with teams participating in two games during the jamboree.

Highlander Youth Lacrosse is a volunteer-driven, non-profit organization rooted in our community. Our focus is on delivering a positive, team-oriented athletic experience to children from kindergarten to eighth grade, with an emphasis on development.

We are proudly affiliated with the Northern Vermont Youth Lacrosse League ( and the Northern Vermont Girls Youth Lacrosse League ( Our coaches undergo mandatory certification through US Lacrosse, and players are covered by US Lacrosse for insurance.

Our program welcomes both boys and girls, including beginners, at all levels. Teams are organized by grades, with divisions for boys and girls in grades 3-4, 5-6, and 7-8. Additionally, we offer a Sunday morning program known as "Chill Lax" for boys and girls in kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade in both a Waitsfield and Waterbury location.

Mad River Valley Youth Lacrosse started in 2008.

In late 2022, Mad River Valley Youth Lacrosse and Harwood Youth Lacrosse joined forces and adopted the name Highlander Youth Lacrosse for the 2023 season. Highlander Youth Lacrosse now proudly represents the communities of Waterbury, Duxbury, Fayston, Middlesex, Moretown, Waitsfield, and Warren.

This year, Fiddlesticks officially merges with Chillax for our K-2 grade programs held every Sunday in May and June.
